Australia remains one of the top destinations for Nepali students seeking quality education and post-study work opportunities. With world-class universities, a welcoming immigration system, and strong employment prospects, it's easy to see why thousands of Nepali students choose Australia each year.
Why Australia?
- Home to 7 universities in the global top 100
- Post-Study Work Visa (subclass 485) allows 2–4 years of work after graduation
- Pathway to permanent residency through skilled migration
- Multicultural society — large Nepali community in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane
- Relatively lower cost of living compared to the UK or USA
English Language Requirements
Most Australian universities require proof of English proficiency. The most accepted tests are PTE Academic and IELTS. For most undergraduate courses, you'll need a PTE score of 58+ overall, and for postgraduate courses, 65+. For migration purposes, PTE 79+ in each skill is typically required.
PTE Academic is often preferred over IELTS for Australian applications because results are faster (5 business days vs 13 days) and the test is available year-round.
Student Visa (Subclass 500) Requirements
- Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from an approved Australian institution
- Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement
- English language proficiency evidence (PTE/IELTS/TOEFL)
- Financial evidence — show you can cover tuition and living costs (approx. AUD 24,505/year)
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) — health insurance mandatory for the duration of your study
- Valid passport and recent photos
- Academic transcripts and certificates
